Swanage Railway

Photographs taken on Saturday 21st and Sunday 22nd May 2005
The weekend was a 'Happy Birthday' event for the Swanage Railway - first opened on May 20th 1885. Then, the first train was hauled by a Beattie 2-4-0 Well Tank - to commemorate the occasion the National Railway Museum's Beattie 30587 (built 1974, rebuilt 1921) visited Swanage and ran throughout the weekend, hauling a two car special from Swanage to Norden. Swanage Railway's own Bulleid Pacific 'Eddystone', together with Std 4MT 80078 and Class 33 'Stan Symes' operated an intensive service with trains passing at both Harman's Cross and Corfe Castle.
