UK Met. Office information: Metfax and MetWeb

The UK Met. Office provides a range of information including up to date surface analysis charts inluding isobars, frontal systems, areas of Low and High pressure, forcast charts, current station reports, radar images etc.

This data is not freely available from the Met. Office but can be obtained at relatively low cost.

MetFax is a dial up service of weather data that is downloaded to a fax machine. Access is charged via a premium rate number (0336 - currently charged at 39p per minute cheap rate and 50p per minute at all other times).

To use the service, set your fax machine to dial the number shown and then press the START button when prompted by the voice message. The data that you have selected will be downloaded and printed to your local fax machine (note: at the cost of premium rate calls, 'virtual ticket' access to the web site is likely to prove cheaper!)

MetWeb is a trial commercial service from the Met. Office. It can be accessed using virtual 'tickets' which can be purchased in books of 20 for £10. Each 50p ticket allows 30 minutes access to the site with pressure charts and reports etc. available for download.
